ACT Travels to Airborne Park Speedway

Racing action resumes this Saturday night, 5 o’clock the post time at Airborne Park Speedway. The American Canadian Tour is in town for their lone stop of the 2016 racing season. The ACT drivers will participate in the Egglefield Ford Spring Green 116 presented by Interstate Batteries. The Ernie’s Discount Tools Sportsman Modifieds, Jeffords Steel Renegades and Busch Beer Mini Mods will also be in action for regular distance races.
The Spring Green began at Catamount Stadium in Milton, VT back in 1974 with 74 laps, and each year has added a lap. Upon the closing of Catamount in 1987, the race was moved to SANAIR Super Speedway in Saint-Pie, Quebec for the 1988 edition. 1989 was the only year there was no Spring Green race run. Returning in 1990, the race was moved to Airborne Speedway, which holds a record for most Spring Green events, with a total of twenty-two (22). The only other location of the event was three events held at Devil’s Bowl Speedway from its asphalt opening in 2012 thru 2014.
One year ago, Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, NH picked up the victory in the 115 lap event. Patrick Laperle, Travis Sterns, Bobby Therrien and Jean-Francois Dery finished in spots two through five.
Last week in Airborne racing action, the Sportsman Modifieds ran 75 laps on opening day. Nick Heywood of Plattsburgh hurried to the lead on lap-5 and never looked back in a dominating performance. Plattsburgh’s Bucko Branham finished second. Apparent third place finisher, Mike Wells, didn’t make it through post-race technical inspection and Jamie LaFountain claimed the third spot. Danny Sullivan and Jamy Begor completed the top five.
Robert Gordon of Milton, VT picked up the Renegades victory, holding off Morrisonville’s Tylor Terry on a lap-25 restart. Terry, Shawn Duquette, Richie Turner and Brent Jarvis rounded out the top five.
Dale O’Neil of Mooers led 14 of 15 laps for the Mini Mod victory. Josh Laporte, Eddie Bresette, Tim LaFountain and Zach Wood completed the top five.
