Plattsburgh Man Wins Airborne Enduro
PLATTSBURGH- It was a wet and wild Sunday afternoon into the evening at Airborne Park Speedway. Crash-a-Rama took place on the speedway grounds with the Moore Recycling Asphalt Demolition Derby presented by Roto-Rooter kicking off the show at 3 and the Leary Restoration Enduro presented by Poirier’s True Value as the night cap.
Lloyd Provost was the first driver to complete all 150 laps and collect the first place trophy. Provost took the lead for good around the lap 80 mark and was smooth sailing all the way home.
“The strategy going into the event was to be smart and defensive,” Provost said. “It also helps when you’re a little bit crazy.”
The heavy rains that passed through the greater Plattsburgh area made the track surface wet and slick. The event started with showers over the speedway and ended with partly cloudy skies.
“With the wet track, the outside groove and top of the track was fast, it seemed like there was a lot of oil down low,” Provost noted.
Zach Wood of Georgia, Vermont took over the second spot around lap 80 and held on until the end. Brent Jarvis of Cadyville, Scott Bouyea of Plattsburgh and Jim Varno of Plattsburgh completed the top five.
Tim Herne, Billie Jo Branham, TJ Herne, Andy Botala and Ryan Senecal completed positions six through ten.
The Asphalt Demolition Derby consisted of two qualifying heats, a consolation and a $1000 to win feature for four and six cylinder vehicles. Tommy Beshaw of Plattsburgh collected the $1000 victory in the demolition main event.
Taylor Atwell was the winner of the eight-cylinder event.
