Pro stocks, 500cc mini sprints to return to Airborne Park for select shows in 2025

PLATTSBURGH, Ny. -- Pro stocks and 500cc mini sprints will be back at the Airborne Park Speedway in 2025, continuing to bring parity to the North Country speed plant’s schedule for the second year under Mike and Alayne Bruno.
Both divisions will assume similar roles to what they held in 2024, with appearances frequently on Saturday night programs and special shows. The full-fendered pro stocks appeared four times in 2024, producing close, exciting racing. Massena, NY’s Burton Ward took home the first pro stock feature of 2024 at Airborne Park on June 15. Three weeks later, Luke Horning barely edged out the ever-popular Marc Lalonde of Canada to win the Independence Day Special pro stock feature on July 3. Lalonde redeemed himself a few weeks later with a dominating win on August 10. Kyle Hoard won the final pro stock race of 2024, on Elegance Coating Championship Weekend, holding off challenges from Bruno Cyr and Denis Gauvreau.
The pro stocks averaged 15 cars in 2024, with drivers from both sides of the border competing and winning. Nineteen cars was the high-water mark on June 15. Denis Gauvreau competed in all four events and had an average finish of 3.75.
As for the 500cc mini sprints, they appeared twice, once on Saturday, August 10 and again on the season’s final weekend. Bridport, V.T.’s Gage Provencher, the 2024 Devil’s Bowl Speedway 500cc mini sprint Champion, bested the field of eight cars in a 15-lap exhibition during the divisions’ first-ever appearance to Airborne Park in August. Provencher defeated Orford, N.H.’s Chris Pierce and Johnstown, NY’s Ashleigh Kulzer to score the win.
During Elegance Coating Championship Weekend the mini sprints returned with a popular segment race, hotly contested between Devil’s Bowl’s 2021 mini sprint Champion, Ray Hanson and the young Destin St. Clair of Peru. Each driver won a segment, but Hanson finished higher in the final round, securing the win. He also picked up the heat win. The 500cc mini sprints have enjoyed their best year as a class in 2024, with an average of 14 cars at Devil’s Bowl. The class has produced several talented drivers in the last few seasons, giving drivers the experience they need to adapt to larger open wheel cars.
More information regarding the 2025 season at Airborne Park Speedway is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
