Felix Roy Holds off Mahaney for Championship, Tim Fuller Wins Finale

Plattsburgh, NY-Felix Roy and Mike Mahaney have been locked together all season long. So it was only fitting that on the night when the Hartson Total Opening DirtCar 358 track champion would be crowned at Airborne Park Speedway, the two would once again never stray to far apart. When the 2025 season finale was in the books, Roy had held off Mahaney by three points to unseat the defending champ, while Tim Fuller drove away from them both to earn the feature win.

“Hollywood” entered the evening with a four-point lead over “Smooth Shoe,” and struck the first blow. The duo drew into the same heat race, won by Roy. Mahaney crossed the line second. The result was five points for Roy and four for Mahaney, resulting in a net gain of plus one for the points leader.

In the 30-lap feature, not coincidentally, Roy fired from the eighth spot on the grid, and Mahaney from the ninth. Jordan Fornwalt jumped to the lead from his outside position on the front row and controlled the point for the first 19 circuits. Mahaney passed Roy for the fourth spot on lap 12, but he still had work to do, as Roy had the Elizabethtown, NY driver locked in his sights. Six laps later, Mahaney muscled his way around Dave Camara for third. However, Roy followed suit on lap 26, and Mahaney could never shake loose from him.
Meanwhile, ahead of the two title combatants, Fuller grabbed the lead from Fornwalt on a lap 21 restart and set sail, cruising away for the victory. Mahaney tried every trick in the book to snag second place from Fornwalt, but couldn’t complete the mission. Even if he had picked up the runner-up spot, Mahaney would have fallen one point short in his title defense. Camara settled for a fifth-place finish behind Fuller, Fornwalt, Mahaney, and Roy.

The J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds battled in Twin 20-lap features. And although their championship won’t be decided until September 27th and 28th, there were plenty of title implications heading into the night, with Nick Heywood, Donovan Lussier, and Travis Bruno separated by a mere 10 points. In the first feature, Lonnie Rivers ended a three-year drought as he used an aggressive move off of turn two on the opening lap to grab the top spot, and never gave it back. Rivers had to survive a restart with five laps remaining as points contenders Lussier and Bruno were in hot pursuit. Rivers had just too fast a piece on this night as he pulled away to capture the elusive win. Lussier placed second, Bruno third, Michael Wright fourth, and Fire Swamp fifth.

In feature #2 for the J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds, Tanner Siemons traded in the 358 modified that he competed with all season for a Crate car and earned his first career win at “The Big A.” Cory Castell launched from the number two position on the grid and dominated the first 15 laps. Siemons, however, was lurking. Five laps away from the checkered flag, the Orford, New Hampshire campaigner decided it was go time, and swept around Castell to gain the top spot. Siemons led the final stage to park his machine in victory lane. Castell remained in second. The points leaders flip-flopped their order with Heywood third, Bruno sixth, and Lussier seventh. Tanner Forbes and Evan Roberts finished fourth and fifth. When the dust cleared, Heywood held the points lead by two points over Lussier and eight over Bruno. The trio has a combined 10 titles between them, with Heywood owning six and Bruno three. Lussier is the defending champion.

There is no such drama in the 9th State Cannabis Renegade division as Tylor Terry came into Sunday’s action with a comfortable advantage. Terry struggled a bit on this night, but he still will head to the final weekend as the odds-on favorite to wear the crown. Brad Bushey, who got off to a fast start to the season, finally regained his form, and he rolled to his third win of the season. Bushey seized control from the drop of the green flag and never looked back. All of the action took place behind the leader, with Josh Terry, Shawn Duquette, Nathan Guay, Roland Guay, Tyler Terry, and Billy Thwaits all under a blanket, sapping positions at the drop of a hat. In the end, Josh Terry prevailed and slipped away for the runner-up spot. Nathaniel Guay finished third, Roland Guay fourth, and Duquette fifth.

In the Hoosier Racing Tires Limited Sportsman 15-lap feature Brogan Roberts continued the recent trend at both Airborne Park and Devil’s Bowl of young drivers with only a few starts visiting victory lane. Roberts jumped to the point from the pole position from the start and led the entire way. Parker Dermody, another young driver searching for his first win, and David Johnson who won twice in the first few starts of his rising career got together in turn one to bring out the caution ending their chances. Roberts maintained the lead on the restart and held off a challenge from points leader Kobe Hernandez to nab the first win of his his blossoming career. Gary English who has four wins on the season had another string run to place third. Chris Sumner was fourth and Justin Lazore fifth.

The Mini Stocks ran split 20-lap extended distance features to close the night of racing, and as usual there was plenty of excitement. In the first feature Jp Corrow won for the fifth time this season climbing within 36 points of the championship lead. Cody Young set the early pace, but Corrow was on the move from his eight-starting spot. Randy Martin also had a fast car but an incident on the backstretch brought his run to an abrupt end. Corrow swept past Young off turn two on lap seven and checked out for the win by the distance of a straight away. Young finished second, followed by Caleb Tourville, Tyler Warren, and Tyler Noel.

In the nightcap, Jake Fountain survived a race of attrition to add to his season win total. Fountain has visited victory lane three times at Airborne and two at Devil’s Bowl. Brandon Osher showed the way for the first 13 laps of the caution-filled event. Points contenders Ryan Senecal and Speedy Bresette both ran into issues and spent time in the garage area. Fountain, who ended the night fourth in points, 46 points out, navigated his way around Osher on a lap 13 restart and zipped away to stand at the top of the podium yet again. Osher crossed the line second, Kyle Botala third, Josh Blake fourth and Ken Tourville fifth.

The season wraps up at Airborne Park on September 27th and 28th with “Championship Weekend” includ9ng “Championship Sunday.” Points titles in all weekly divisions will be resolved, with the Pro Stocks, 500cc Mini Sprints and Crown Vics also scheduled to be on the card. There will be a 50 lap $1,000 to win Enduro as well. Grandstand admission is $25. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit Passes are $45 and include the end of the season barbecue. All admission passes are good for the entire weekend.
