Bushey Wins Renegade Special; Roy wins 358 mods, Branham, English and Bresette big winners on Thursday.
Plattsburgh, N.Y- The 9th State Renegades took center stage Thursday night with a 30 lap $500 to win special event at Airborne Park Speedway. The renegades treated fans to one of the best battles of the season as a blanket could have covered the top four cars during most of the event.
When the checkered flag flew Fairfax, Vermont’s Brad Bushey had captured a narrow win to earn his second trip to victory lane on the year. Bushey survived a thrilling clash with Tylor Terry, Shawn Fountain and Josh Terry. Tylor Terry fell out of contention late when his car slipped up the race track between turns three and four leaving the rest of the trio to settle it. Josh Terry set the early pace, but Bushey quickly sprung to second from his sixth starting position. Bushey and Josh Terry battled side by side for two circuits before caution flew on lap 16. On the restart Bushey survived a three-car scrum to once again take the lead. Once Bushey navigated his way to the top spot, Fountain and Terry stayed ready to pounce, but the former pavement competitor held on the rest of the way. Josh Terry held off Fountain for second. Richie Turner and Roland Guay closed out the top five. Garnering heat race wins were Shawn Duquette and Josh Terry.
To say Gary English has been red hot to begin the season would be an understatement. English captured not one, but two limited sportsman feature events on Thursday night, bringing his overall total to three for the season. In the rain delayed feature from May 1st Garin Thompson shot to the lead and seemed to be on his way to an easy win until a caution flag on lap 18. It wasn’t to be, however. English took advantage of the restart to get around Thompson and pulled away to earn the checkers. Thompson was able to salvage second, Lea-Jeanne Lauziere third, Joe Charter fourth and Kobe Hernandez fifth. The regularly scheduled feature was more of the same. English flashed his dominance once again, blowing by Parker Dermody on lap three and stretching out to a half a straightaway advantage in the blink of an eye. English coasted to the easy victory, followed by Hernandez, Dermody, Thompson, and Lauziere. English also added to his perfect night with a heat race win.
For 28 of the 30 lap Hartson Total Opening DirtCar 358 modified feature, Orford, New Hampshire’s Tanner Siemons seemed on his way to his first win of the season, but a late caution flag proved costly. Siemons glanced to his right for the restart to find defending track champion Felix Roy lined up beside him. When Kenny Marshall unfurled the green flag signaling racing could resume, Roy flexed his muscles and powered around Siemons in turn two, grabbed the point and held on to claim his second victory of the season and maintain his perch atop the division’s point standings. David Hebert, Greg Atkins, and Jordan Fornwalt won the qualifying races.
Veteran wheelman Bucko Branham made short work of the field in the J & S Steel sportsman modified feature. It must have felt like a drive in the park with the family for Branham who led flag to flag and was never challenged. Branham maintained nearly a straightaway lead for the entire race, and only had to survive one restart on lap nine.
Mike Phinney had his best run of the season to place second. Matt Leonard was third, Donovan Lussier fourth and Travis Bruno fifth. Lussier charged from the 17th starting spot, gaining an impressive 13 positions. Winners in the heat races included Eric Shaw, Branham, and Jason McClatchie.
The mini stock feature saw the end of JP Corrow’s three race winning streak which covered two weeks at “The Big A” and one Sunday evening at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Keesville, New York’s Stephen Bresette parked his car in victory lane for the first time in 2025. Tyler Van Weort and Haiden Bordeau led the group to the starter’s flag, but it didn’t take long for Josh Laporte to rise to the top after a pair of early race yellow flags. Bresette grabbed the lead from LaPorte on lap 10 went on to cross the line first. Ryan Senecal sliced through traffic from the 14th spot on the grid to finish second. Cale Manor, Jake Fountain, and Van Weort closed out the top five. Heat race wins were collected by Bordeau, Van Weort, and Cody Young. Nick Harnden won the B Main.
