Champions to be Crowned at Airborne Park Speedway This Weekend!
Plattsburgh, NY-It all comes down to this. After battling tooth and nail since early April, track champions will be crowned this weekend at Airborne Park Speedway when “Championship Weekend” overtakes Airborne Park on Saturday, September 27th, and Sunday, September 28th. Don’t miss this thrilling extravaganza as the dirt racing season winds down in the heart of the North Country.
Felix Roy has claimed the title for the Hartson Total Opening 358 Modifieds, but championships will be decided for the J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds, Hoosier Tire Limited Sportsman, 9th State Cannabis Renegades, and Mini Stocks, but that isn’t all. The weekend will also feature appearances by Pro Stocks, Crown Vics, 500cc Mini Sprints, and Enduro cars.
Saturday’s card will include Renegades, Mini Stocks, Limited Sportsman, 500cc Mini Sprints, and Crown Vics. The Sportsman Modifieds will also compete in a Non-Winners Race for drivers who have not won on any track in 2025.
There will also be a wild and crazy 50-lap Enduro to close out the night. The winner’s share is guaranteed to be $750. If the Enduro garners more than 25 cars, the purse will increase to $1,000.
After racing concludes for the day, there will be a chicken barbecue, music, and a bonfire at approx 6:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at dusk.
Pit gates will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Grandstand gates open at 12:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 1:15 p.m., with the green flag flying at 2:00 p.m.
On Sunday, the Sportsman Modifieds will run a 50-lap season finale with a $5,000 to win purse with timed hot laps. The Mini Stocks will race in a 50-lap, $500 to win feature using home track rules, allowing drivers from all over the region to take part. Pro Stocks, Renegades, 500cc Mini Sprints, and Crown Vics will also be a part of the show.
The full-fendered pro stocks will race for a guaranteed $750 to win. If 20 or more pro stocks are entered, the winner’s share will be increased to $1,000.
The 9th State Cannabis Renegades will run 30 laps, paying $500 to win.
The tightest division heading into the weekend is the J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds, where three former champions are all in a position to wear the crown. Six-time champion Nick Heywood holds a slim two-point lead over defending champion Donovan Lussier. Three-time champion Travis Bruno is just eight points behind. Heywood and Lussier both have three wins on the season. Bruno has not captured a checkered flag but has been the most consistent driver during his campaign.
In the 9th State Cannabis Renegades, Tylor Terry holds a comfortable 37-point cushion over defending champion Shawn Duquette. Terry has visited victory lane more times than any driver in any division this season, with seven wins. Duquette has four wins on the season.
Kobe Hernandez has all but sewn up the title in the Hoosier Tire Limited Sportsman. The Chazy, NY, driver holds a 61-point advantage over Parker Dermody. No other driver is within 150 points of Hernandez.
Defending champion Ryan Senecal enters the final weekend with an excellent shot to repeat. Senecal leads Jp Corrow by 26 points, Jake Fountain by 31 points, and Speedy Bresette by 42 points. With the large number of entries usually associated with this division, things could change quickly. Senecal has parked his machine in victory lane four times this season. Corrow had five wins, and Fountain three. Bresette had not been credited with a win but has been knocking on the door week in and week out.
Zack Daniels has been on fire in the pro stocks in their most recent appearances, winning three times in a row. Denis Gauvreau has also captured a win this season.
Pit gates open at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission gates open at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 4:15 p.m. Racing begins at 5:00 p.m.
General admission for the entire weekend is just $25, good for both days. Kids 12 and under are admitted free. Pit passes are $45, once again good for both days, and include the chicken barbecue. Dry camping is available for $25 for the entire weekend. Full hook-up camping spots have limited availability and are $40 per day. The camping lot will open at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
