Big Season of Dirt-Track Excitement Planned for 72nd Season of Racing at Airborne Park
PLATTSBURGH, Ny. -- After two successful years back at Airborne Park, promoters Mike and Alayne Bruno are continuing to provide quality dirt-track racing entertainment in the North Country.
Airborne Park Speedway powered by New England Ford Dealers is celebrating 72 years of racing in 2026 and doing so in a big way, with 24 action-packed race programs on Thursdays and Sundays. The season is slated to begin in just eight weeks on Sunday, April 12 at 2PM with the 40-lap, $4,000-to-win Leon Gonyo Memorial Race for the 358 modifieds. The following two weeks will also feature Sunday racing until Thursday Night Thunder returns on May 7.
On May 14, one of 2025’s most memorable races returns as the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series rolls into town. Mat Williamson is expected to try to defend his race title while Mike Mahaney will look for redemption after his wild hard-charging run in 2025. Hometown Heroes Night is back in 2026 the next week on Thursday, May 21. The month closes out on the May 28 with a special $500-to-win show for the renegades and the fan-favorite kids’ poster contest.
June brings a number of exciting special programs to Airborne Park Speedway with street-legal spectator racing on June 4 and the $500-to-win mini-stock feature on June 11. After that, on Father’s Day Weekend its “Topless Night;” the 358s, sportsman and limited sportsman will all race with no roofs. The event also marks the halfway point in the season, with extra laps and no heat races for all classes. One week later, on June 25, the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series returns to “The Big A” for kids’ rides night.
The sportsman “Firecracker 44” rings in July on Thursday, July 2 along with the first enduro event of the year. Then, some time off for the Clinton County Fair before the much-anticipated return of the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series on a special Wednesday, July 22. Thursday, July 23 will be used as a rain-date if necessary. The second installment of kids’ rides finishes out July on Thursday, the 30th.
The lone Saturday on the 2026 schedule is Saturday August 8 for the annual Make-A-Wish Night. An already-full card of racing will be featured with the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series, the second enduro of 2026 and the annual kids’ backpack giveaways for the upcoming return to school. The following week is another good one for the kiddos, as Thursday August 13 is bicycle giveaway night! August 20 is another $1,000-to-win mini-stock special, a wild finish in 2025 made this race an instant classic and a must-run again in 2026.
Labor Day Weekend features a Vermont 200 qualifier race for the sportsman and then the Airborne Park Speedway season ends a week later on Sunday, September 13 with Championship Sunday, a 40-lap, $2,500-to-win 358 modified special and a 50-lap, $2,000 to win feature for the sportsman, plus crown vics, home-track rules mini-stocks and the final 50-lap enduro of the season.
The 2026 schedule holds 15 358 modified races, 20 sportsman, renegade, limited sportsman and mini-stock events, four pro-stock races, eight crown vic shows and the three enduros.
