Shane Pecore Rolls to Sportsman Modified Win on Liquor and Wine Warehouse Make-A-Wish Night, Tanner Dominates SCoNE Event

Plattsburgh, NY-Shane Pecore is no stranger to victory lane. The Cornwall, Ontario driver has won a dozen DirtCar Sportsman Series events and claimed the prestigious DIRTcar Sportsman Great Lakes 75 at Super Dirt Week 53 in 2018. He collected three wins in a row in early July at different tracks. Saturday night, Pecore added another notch to his belt as he scored a flag-to-flag win on Liquor and Wine Warehouse Make-A-Wish Night at Airborne Park Speedway.

The fate of the talented 24-car field was essentially sealed at the redraw, where Pecore snagged the number one cone, handing him the pole position. That was all it took as Pecore led all 50 laps to dominate in the Make-A-Wish main event. The 2016 DirtCar Series champion, who has worn the North Region Crown four times, jumped to the start from the drop of the green flag and was never challenged. The tight racing was going on behind him as Nick Heywood, Fire Swamp, and Travis Bruno battled for the second spot. Heywood and Bruno were in the mix all night, while Swamp had to charge from the eleventh starting spot to join the fray. Caution flags on laps 19, 29, 34, and 44 tightened the field, but Pecore managed to stave off his combatants each time. Swamp slipped underneath Heywood late for the runner-up spot, with Bruno and Michael Wright closing out the top five.

Matt Tanner continued the evening’s theme of “total domination” as he drove from the fifth position on the starting grid to cruise to victory in the 25-lap McGee Automotive Family Sprint Cars of New England feature. Tanner, who is now the SCoNE points leader, was the class of the field from the start. Tyler Chartrand set the early pace for the first nine circuits, but after disposing of Nick Krueger to take second, Tanner flew past Chartrand and was never challenged. Slower traffic hindered his progress to a certain extent as Chartrand closed the gap to five car lengths, but Tanner was too strong and crossed under the checkers first on night one of the Lacaillade Masonry/LA Transportation Lake Champlain Series doubleheader. Chartrand held on for second, Floyd Billington third, Kadyn Berry fourth, and Krueger fifth. It was the second win of 2025 for Tanner and the 13th of his SCoNE career.

Hometown driver Zack Daniels jumped to the lead early, then held off a late rally from Marc LaLonde to pick up his second consecutive pro stock win at “The Big A.” A stout field of 21 full-fendered machines took the green flag with Bruno Cyr leading the first three laps. Daniels beat Cyr to the punch on a lap four restart to grab the top spot and never let it go. Meanwhile, LaLonde was navigating his way toward the front from his twelfth starting spot and used an aggressive move on the outside to rise to the second spot. LaLonde began to inch his way closer to Daniels at one point, but the lead stabilized in the closing laps as Daniels made it back-to-back visits to victory lane. LaLonde finished second, followed by Jocelyn Roy, Bastien Caron, Dany Voghel.

The Ninth State Cannabis Renegade Division always puts on an entertaining show, and this week was no exception. Brothers Nathan and Roland Guay staged a sibling rivalry for the first four laps. After a caution on lap four, Shawn Duquette seized control on the restart and seemed to have things well in hand. The field was re-racked after yellow flew on lap 12. Brad Bushey took advantage as he wrestled the top spot away from Duquette on lap 15, but it was short-lived as the defending track champion drove back by him three laps later. Tylor Terry slipped past Bushey for second but could not run down Duquette. Terry passed Bushey late to finish third.

It was an emotional victory lane following the Limited Sportsman feature as David Johnson, in just his second career start, captured the win. Three-time winner Gary English was in control for the first 13 laps, but Johnson muscled his way to the lead on lap 14 and began to pull away. Johnson’s inaugural victory was put in jeopardy when a late caution set up a green-white-checkers situation. English took his best shot at Johnson on the restart, but the newbie was just too strong and held on for the monumental win. Parker Dermody finished third.

In the 500cc Mini Sprint main event, veteran Scott Bachand tripled his career win total as he outlasted Gage Provencher to pull off his third win of the season. Provencher started on the front row and held serve for the early laps, but Bachand quickly rose to second and began to chase “Pig Boy” down. Bachand did something few have been able to do this season: blow past the defending Devil’s Bowl track champion to take the lead, but Provencher returned the favor on a restart and seemed poised to run away. Bachand, however, chased Provencher down and used the outside groove to overtake him for the victory. Provencher held on for second, followed by Destin St. Clair.

In the Mini Stock feature, defending track champion Ryan Senecal grabbed the point late and held on for the victory. Caleb Tourville led the first seven laps before being overtaken by Jeremiah King. King’s time in front was short-lived as Jp Corrow got around him on the next lap, led the way until a lap 17 caution. Senecal was able to drive past Corrow on the final lap to steal the win. Corrow followed Senecal across the line. Speedy Bresette came from the 15th starting spot to place third.

In the finale, Trevor Jaques took advantage of the late race woes of Ritchie Turner to nab the win. Turner clearly had the car to beat but was forced to the pits late in the contest with a mechanical issue. Randy Martin inherited the lead after Turner’s problems, but Jaques quickly disposed of him and drove off to earn the checkers. Martin finished second, followed by Jp Corrow, Jamie Whiteney Jr., and Josh LaPorte.

Airborne Park returns to its regular schedule on Thursday night, August 14th, with $1000 to win for the Mini Stocks and Kid’s Race Car Rides. The 358 DirtCar Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, and Limited Sportsman will also be on the card. Grandstand admission is $15. Kids under 12 are admitted free. Pit admission is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Racing begins at 7 p.m.
